Author Chris Russell Visits Thomas Bennett!

On Wednesday 1st February, a dreary and wet afternoon was considerably brightened up by a visit by musician and author Chris Russell to TBCC.  100 Year 9 students were treated to a musical showcase by him, he played his guitar and sang several songs by artists as diverse as Ed Sheeran, Bon Jovi, One Direction and, of course, his own band, The Lightyears.  Students firstly learned all about his journey from being a shy teenager to being an international rock star and were able to ask him questions about how he had become a successful musician.  They heard about his experiences of touring the world and playing at Wembley Stadium.

Chris then went on to explain how he had begun to write and his honest and funny descriptions made everyone in the room want to read his latest book ‘Songs About a Girl’.  It was interesting to hear about how he plans his novels and to hear that he uses spreadsheets to plot his characters and events.  Several students decided to buy copies of the book and Chris autographed these for them.

Students described the event as “really cool”, “fun” and “inspirational”.  We hope that Chris might be able to return to us in the future to play his music and speak to other year groups.
