Year 8 Options Process
Welcome to the options process
All year eight students at Thomas Bennett will be selecting their GCSE options to commence study at the start of year nine. A three year GCSE programme of study allows students greater exposure to the increased demands of the newly reformed GCSE’s graded on the 1-9 scale.

The booklet outlines all the information you and your child need in order to make an informed decision about options choices for GCSE courses.
In Spring 2021 your child will receive an email with a link to an online options form. Students must select four options in total, plus three reserve options which will be used should we not be able to offer first preferences. Most students will receive their first choices but a small number will have to be placed in a reserve must understand they could be placed in them. Students must study the compulsory subjects of English, maths and science. To encourage students to fulfil the EBacc measure, at least two options should be selected from the EBacc subjects. Any other subjects can be selected.
You must select four options in total. Atleast one of these options must come from Option Box A. All other choices can come either Option Box A or Option Box B. Maths,English and science are compulsory subjects and do not need to be selected.
*If you select a language option, you must have already studied this language at TBCC
** All students will be allocated a Core PE lesson.
