What is going on in the Library:
We now have a Creative Writing Club and a Board Game Club running after school. We also have a Book Club starting this week, which will feed into the Sussex Coast Schools Amazing Book Awards, an award which is totally chosen by the students who read the books.
After school clubs:
Monday - Book Club, 15.00 - 16.00
Tuesday - Creative Writing Club, 15.00 - 16.00
Friday – Pokemon Club, 15.00 - 16.00
There is also a Library Focus Group which is run half termly.
As part of the year 7 and 8 curriculum, students participate in the Accelerated Reader program, designed to promote reading for pleasure and boost reading ability. Each student completes regular assessment to work out their reading range, and then chooses books to read from within that range. After they finish each book, students take short quizzes to get instant results on how well they are reading. They can take quizzes during their Accelerated Reader lessons, or any time the library is open either before or after school. Every book they read is worth points, which add up throughout the year. Each half term there are prizes awarded in each class for the students who have read the most words, earned the most points, and made the biggest improvement in reading. Students who get 100% correct in any quiz will become members of the 100% Club for their class, and students who total 1,000,000 words read will become members of the Millionaire’s Club.
