Examinations

This page provides essential information about public examinations taken at Thomas Bennett Community College, including exam boards, key dates, procedures, and support for students.

Examination Boards

Our school currently enters students for examinations with the following awarding bodies:

  • GCSEs and A-levels: AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC

  • Vocational Qualifications: BTEC, Cambridge Nationals, Cambridge Technicals

Examination Timetable

  • Examination timetables are issued to students prior to each exam series.

  • Students must check their timetable carefully and report any clashes immediately to the Examinations Officer.

Exam Regulations and Conduct

All students must follow the rules set by the examination boards. Key points include:

  • Students must arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of each exam.

  • Mobile phones, smart watches, and unauthorised materials are not permitted in the exam room.

  • Full school uniform must be worn unless otherwise advised.

  • Any form of malpractice may result in disqualification.

Candidate Information

Students are issued with a candidate number and must bring the required equipment for each exam. Black ink must be used unless otherwise stated.

Official notices and instructions for candidates will be shared during assemblies and displayed in school.

Access Arrangements

Access arrangements (such as extra time, rest breaks, or use of a reader) are provided in line with examination board regulations.

  • These arrangements are based on evidence and assessment.

  • Parents/carers will be informed where access arrangements apply.

  • Queries should be directed to the SENCo.

Absence from an Examination

If a student is unable to attend an examination due to illness or an emergency:

  • The school must be informed as soon as possible on the day of the exam.

  • Medical evidence may be required.

  • In some cases, special consideration may be applied for.

Results Days

  • Results can be collected in person on the published results day.

  • If students cannot attend, arrangements must be made in advance.

  • Certificates are issued later in the year and must be collected or stored safely.

A-level results are released on Thursday, August 13, 2026, and GCSE results are released on Thursday, August 20, 2026. More information will be shared on this page closer to the time.

Appeals and Reviews of Results

Information regarding post-results services, including reviews of marking and appeals, will be provided on results day. Deadlines set by the examination boards must be strictly followed.
